Alexis Brown of Straight Line Stitch

We talk an awful lot about Asian male artists on the  Narrative, particularly those from the soul, R&B, hip hop, and pop genres.  Let's switch it up just a little bit for a few days, shall we?  Both in gender and genre.

Alexis Brown here does the vocals for metal band Straight Line Stitch where her good looks, powerful voice, and famous "windmill" hair whip have amassed a large fan base.  I also like how her band's maintaining the "long hair on guys" look which I've always liked about men in rock.
I'm an entertainer, I sing for a heavy metal band called Straight Line Stitch. I'm just your normal average woman who loves to laugh, likes to read, likes to watch scary movies in her free time, & travel the world.

~ Alexis Brown
Ah...the humility.

I've saved you guys the trouble of looking up the band's music, and you better say thank you because this ish is addictive.  Even if you're not into metal, you can't watch just one video.

  4. This is too freaking ironic. You guys will probably think I'm a bald face lair...but now I know my cuz is getting her name out there. Alexis Brown is my cousing...Yes that's right...we were both born (and for her;mostly raised) in Columbia SC.
My cuz is straight ripping it on the stage, unapologicaly. I'll be at her next local concert and will be sure to have video and pictures of the two us together updated on the blog. The band is on a hiatus at the moment...but take your eye of Alexis...the genre isn't my cup of tea..and to be honest..it wasn't her's either..but we both have rebellious nature and love the element of 'fuck socieity' hahahaha. Here's to breaking down social barriers. muwahh

  5. Also...I will be doing a full write up/underground interview with Alexis which will also be updated...Ourstory has to be told by us. "Until the lion has it's own historian..the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter" African Proverb.

    2. I'd be glad to share my interview with you Ankh to post here on the Narrative. Do you have any specific interview questions you'd like me to ask? My brother and my other cousins and I attend her local concerts as a show of support. We are never surprised to see that we are the only black people in the venue besides the lead singer. lol. But I've found it's true what they say about drunk white people...they LOVE to buy you drinks as long as it keeps you in their company because it makes them feel cool. lol

But seriously, and to be honest...I remember the first time I saw her transform into her on-stage persona and alter ego and was shocked, to the point of almost being scared...I couldn't believe this was the same shy soft spoken girl i grew up with.

But drop me a few lines via email if you want to discuss and converse more at nikkiafroetry@afroetic.com

    3. Cool. I'm glad to see Alexis Brown featured on this blog. I've been a fan of this band for a couple of years. I haven't seen them in concert yet but I'm looking forward to it in the future. I can't wait till the interview with Alexis is posted. It's always nice to see more girls (women) leaders singer or musicians into rock music. They're very few women in heavy metal rock bands as it is. So kudos on this. By the way, I've been reading your blog for the last few days. I really got to say I like what I see. LOL... I didn't know Kon was apart of this blog. I been following his videos on youtube for a bit. Anyway, great work with the blog.

  6. I'd be lying if I said I completely disliked it because the first 2 scared me a bit but by the third I was feeling it...thank you.

First time hearing them and honestly.. probably my last but it was great to know that my loath of metal has pretty much ended thanks to them.

  8. She really is talented. I love her hair and the deep voice thing made my throat feel kinda sore but she also has a nice singing voice as well. The scenes of the videos are really creative and daring and I appreciate Alexis Brown fearless performance.

  9. I've always had a soft spot for heavy metal? Does she play an instrument? I only watched a bit and didn't see her with one. Whether she does or not isn't really important, just COOL!

  10. First of all...

...totally want her shoes from the first vid
...totally want that shirt from the second vid
...totally want the makeup from the third vid
...totally want her hair from the fourth vid

    Secondly,

I'm not into metal, but I totally love that this gorgeous woman is fronting a HM band. The videos are cooooool and she looks awesome. deedee7789 called her fearless and she is spot on. I wish her nothing but tons of success.

    Rock on, Alexis!

    1. Too cool! I loved heavy metal in middle school. It's not my cup of tea these days but I'm always happy to see black girls stepping outside the box.

  12. I love Alexis, but a tiny part of me hopes metal won't get TOO popular. I like being one of the few black chicks who love metal. I know, immature. But when stuff gets popular, greedy companies ruin it. I.e rap
