Blasian Lit Thread #17

To make up for the utter fail of the last lit thread, here are four first-class books.

What Lies Between Lovers by Sophia Shaw
Monique Evans has ended a three year relationship with a married man. He made promises to her he had no intentions of keeping and that hurt her terribly. She vows to never love with her heart again and her next relationship will only be physical.

Tao Samuels and Monique play on the same basketball team. Their relationship is a friendly one, until Tao sees Monique in her true beauty. One night of burning desire alters the course of their platonic relationship. Their relationship is strongly physical; however there are a few rules to follow.

WHAT LIES BETWEEN LOVERS is a story of two friends jeopardizing their friendship for love. The story moves at a fast pace, but halfway through the story, the plot loses its intensity. (Reviewed by Sharon Lewis of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers)

Hot For Teacher by Roslyn Hardy Holcomb
Is there anything sexier than a hot man surrounded by adorable kids? Budding entrepreneur and former elite gymnast Caja Montgomery certainly doesn’t think so. A firm adherent to the hit it and quit it school of sex it only takes one encounter with Michael Fauatea, a hot-to-death elementary school teacher to make her question her principles, her libido, and finally her sanity. Much too busy to invest time in relationships she has always preferred jump-offs; men who are no more interested in commitment than she is. It’s an ideal situation, she gets her sexual needs met and still has plenty of time for her true passion: Brickhouse, the chain of fitness centers she owns. As far as she’s concerned, Michael will be no different, or so she thinks. Unfortunately for Caja, Michael just isn’t a casual sex kind of guy. He lets her know in no uncertain terms that he’s not prepared to settle for anything less than a committed relationship. To Caja’s stunned amazement he cuts her off leaving her bewitched, bothered and bewildered beyond belief. Before she gets the chance to address the way he has turned the tables on her, outside forces threaten her nascent empire. Surviving this attack will take all the skill and fortitude Caja possesses. Will she be able to keep Brickhouse and Michael too?

Comment: I don't read romance the way I used to, I've been here before and the person who got me reading them again a long time ago was Roslyn Hardy Holcomb. I've always enjoyed Holcomb's well rounded female characters and the mild quirkiness of her stories. This is her Blasian book, Michael Fauatea is Samoan.

Go With Your Heart by Savannah J. Frierson
Shiloh Ray is a self made woman who runs a saloon in Oklahoma Territory after the Civil War. Shiloh is an ultramodern woman, never simply adhering to what society expects of her. She yearns for the courageous man who saw past her skin color and status but simply wanted the woman. With constant nagging from her family to settle down and marry, will Shiloh succumb to the advances of the new doctor in town or will Shiloh take a second chance with a man from her past?

Go With Your Heart by Savannah J. Frierson had a very strong and likable female lead in Shiloh Ray. She is to be admired as she escaped to the Oklahoma Territory with her brothers from slavery. There Shiloh obtained enough money to eventually co-own a saloon which was quite unheard of during the time. From the moment her soul mate, Nashoba, is introduced the reader is captivated. Not just by Nashoba’s untamed beauty, but his sense of justice. Nashoba is not simply drool-worthy, but an admirable man who fought for what is right. He is not just an alpha male, but an exemplary hero.. Considering his American Indian heritage, it is lovely to see him truly care for Shiloh and want what’s best for her, rather than thinking of what he would like. I loved the true partnership and balance between the two lovers. I smiled with happiness when the two lovers were reunited despite the misgiving of certain members in Shiloh’s family.  Comment: My friend recommended this book to me because she really enjoyed it but it looks like the book is out of print. I can't find it on Amazon and, for some odd reason, on the publisher's website as well (the book cover is on there but clicking on it leads me to a completely different book).

Corruption by Amaya Radjani
Mahogany Carroll is a unrepentant cougar; Jordan Yoshito is a precocious cub. Jordan's struggling with finding his way in the world, and Mahogany's struggling with needing more than just great sex. Mahogany likes her men young and Jordan prefers his women experienced, thus the relationship they enter is supposed to be no more than temporary.

But people have a way of leaving their mark on one another long after encounters have ceased, and these two are no exception.

  4. Corruption...BEST BOOK I HAVE READ SO FAR!!!...The writing is absolutely flawless and the editing is well done. And the best thing...the ending was realistic and made sense in the story. I highly suggest it to everyone I have read it three times and Amaya's shorties on her main website are amazing as well!

  6. Thank you Cosmic Yoruba for posting my book, Hot for Teacher on your site. I understand your readers frustration with the covers. I can't speak for anyone else, but trying to find a sexy picture of a Samoan man almost drove me insane. I actually spent nearly as long looking for a picture as I id writing the book! I have a book featuring a Vietnamese man coming out next spring and I've already started the photo hunt. Like most authors today I use stock photography. It is simply too expensive to hire modls to do a photo shoot. More than anything I want hot, sexy covers featuring Asian men who are NOT doing martial arts! They're almost impossible to find.

    1. Hello Roslyn! Thanks for stopping by.

I'm guessing that the book featuring a Vietnamese man is related to the Vietnamese sibling mentioned in Buttercream? I really can't wait for that! Thank you very much for choosing heroes that are not the typical East Asian mold. And good luck with the photo search.

    2. Yep, it's Jacinto! The name of the book is Milk and Honey. If I manage to keep to my schedule-- I'm woefully behind, it should be out next spring. I'll be sure to let you guys know.
