Reason #3,056,231 Why Garrett Wang is My Husband

For of those of you who recently stopped by the Bar, you know that I went to see Star Trek: Into Darkness this weekend.

I maintain that this is is Khan Noonen Singh...

...and this ain't.

Let's just breeze right by the part where we debate whether or not JJ Abrams should've rewritten and recast an established character and focus one why once the decision to resurrect Khan was made, a white British dude was cast to play a North Indian Sikh who formerly ruled part of Asia.

Garrett Wang (Ensign Harry Kim from Star Trek: Voyager) said:

And the Sulu fangirling will now kick into even higher gear because of this gem right here (just skip to the 1:50 mark):

Thank you, gentlemen, for speaking up.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for calling this out - MAD props to John Cho for speaking up and not giving a shit about who signs his checks.  Revamping Wrath of Khan was already a massive fail.  Casting a white dude simply guaranteed this movie would be put on next-level blast.

Did anyone else go see this?

  1. Read that FAQ article on FB; now I have to go see it just to see how bad it is.

  2. Oh I saw this. <3
BTW, if you're gonna mention Garrett Wang, where's the eyecandy?

  3. Damn, Garrett Wang gets it!

For decades, ever since hollywood's conception, actors of color have been denied white roles. whites have never had a problem with this. However, the moment People of Color simply complain about yellowface or blackface, on top of the racism and meager opportunities for PoC, whites lose their shit. Typical.

And let's not forget that we're simply complaining. whites are still "winning." it's not enough for them to have white privilege at the expense of our suffering; they need to indulge in inequity with impunity.

    1. John Cho gets it too....
